Competitive analysis
To deepen this understanding, I also examined existing tools like Slack, Trello, Habitica, and CRED. Each platform revealed interesting patterns
Trello nailed task tracking but lacked emotional engagement, Habitica was gamified but too individual-focused, and Slack felt overwhelming for casual updates.
These observations helped me spot clear opportunity areas to simplify workflows, bring more visibility to progress, and introduce team-centric motivation, core ideas that shaped the foundation of CO-MOTION.

Design Brief
Staying productive and engaged while working remotely can be overwhelming, especially with scattered tools and limited team connection.
Design an inclusive, gamified collaboration platform that helps remote teams manage tasks, track productivity, and stay motivated through shared goals, personalized rewards, and simplified communication—creating a cohesive remote work experience.

Diving in the Process
I began this project by exploring how remote work has reshaped collaboration and productivity over the last few years. My initial research relied heavily on secondary sources—ranging from articles and workplace reports to case studies and blogs—focused on the everyday struggles of remote workers. I specifically looked into common pain points like fragmented communication, reduced motivation, lack of visibility, and digital fatigue.

How Might We?

How might we reduce tool fatigue by centralizing task, meeting, and team interactions in one streamlined interface?

How might we make progress tracking more intuitive and motivating for remote employees struggling with visibility and feedback?

How might we design gamified elements that encourage engagement without fostering unhealthy competition?

What do the Interviewees say?
“When coding with music on, people might miss Teams notifications... time-sensitive solutions can get delayed”.
The day starts in this room and ends in this room... it can be isolating because I don’t know my teammates personally.
“In a remote setting, you’re alone doing tasks... but if you’re in the office, colleagues nearby might hear your problem and hop in to help.”
